There is an app for everything nowadays, but what are the best apps you should use as a journalist?

Your phone is a powerful tool that can help you source stories, research, interview and edit on the go.

It’s easy to get lost in the sea of apps with constant pop-up adverts and paywalls.

We’ve compiled a list of apps you should use as a journalist.

News apps

Having news apps downloaded means you will be updated throughout the day with what’s happening around the world.

You will be notified when there is breaking news and big stories happen.

Just make sure you have push notifications on.

Apps like Ground News, Sky News, BBC and The Guardian are just a few of the free news apps available.

Editing

Creating video content for TikTok and Instagram Reels is really important.

CapCut is free to use, and you can upgrade to Pro for £13.99 monthly, or £119.99 annually.

You can use it to edit videos, record voiceovers and add captions.

There are also lots of teleprompter apps you can use for free, such as Teleprompter.com.

Free with both Android and Apple phones, voice recorder apps are user-friendly and very helpful in your early career.

You can use your phone to record your interviews, making a dictaphone one less thing to carry with you.

You can export the recordings, speed them up and cut out any silent moments.

Canva is a great online design tool you can use to edit photos and videos and create graphics.

There are lots of free features where you can resize graphics for different platforms, blur backgrounds and animate graphics.

You can upgrade to Canva Pro for £10.99 a month, or £99.99 annually.

It’s a great place to post your work and build up your portfolio.

Having the app means you can quickly edit your copy if your story develops, check any comments and even see your traffic sources.

WordPress is a popular platform that journalists use to create their journalism portfolio on.

On the free version you can create a simple blog, or you can pay to get a very wide range of different features and templates.

Having the app means you can easily publish your work whenever your inspiration strikes.
