Our entire School of Journalism class of 2021 achieved first-class degrees in their BA (Hons) in Multimedia Journalism.
All of our trainees also achieved the highly sought-after gold-standard NCTJ diploma, including 100 words-per-minute shorthand.
The School of Journalism is officially the number one NCTJ journalism course in the country following the unprecedented success of our first-ever cohort in 2020 where 100% of our trainees achieved gold-standard NCTJ Diplomas – with 71% also achieving first-class degrees and 29% a 2.1.
Prior to this, the gold-standard NCTJ pass rates for the number one-ranked accredited undergraduate courses from 2013-2019 were 50%, 48.78%, 55.56%, 59.46%, 38.46%, 50% and 38.46%.

News Associates head of journalism Andrew Greaves said: “It’s fair to say that the last 18 months have been a real challenge for university students across the country but I’m delighted that all of the hard work has paid off for our School of Journalism trainees.
“I am extremely proud of the way they have handled the various challenges the Covid-19 pandemic has thrown at them and it’s been an absolute pleasure to work with them over the last three years.
“All have shown themselves to be able to have all the skills required to be a journalist in the changing media landscape – not least resilience and a strong work ethic – and I am sure they will all go on to have brilliant careers.”
I’m absolutely over the moon to say that I am graduating with a First Class Honours Degree in journalism and a gold standard NCTJ diploma

News Associates journalism tutor Alice Gregory said: “Despite the challenges thrown at them as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, our School of Journalism trainees continued to give 100% to their studies.
“They demonstrated many times over that they have the aptitude and attitude to succeed in journalism. Never afraid of hard work, they produced work of a continually high standard and hit every deadline. They should feel as proud of themselves as we do!”
The news follows News Associates winning Innovation of the Year at the 2020 NCTJ Awards for Excellence for the way we are teaching and inspiring our trainees.
News Associates editorial development manager Lucy Dyer said: “The work ethic of our School of Journalism trainees is nothing short of amazing. The way they kept focussed and high spirited during the pandemic was admirable. They should be so proud and I have no doubt their achievements will be recognised in the jobs market very quickly!
“I would also like to thank the outstanding work of our training team for consistently helping our trainees achieve their potential.
“These results are incredible regardless of the situation but are even more impressive given the covid-19 pandemic.”
The School of Journalism is a unique collaboration between News Associates and Marjon University.
