If you’ve applied for university in 2024 and have used all five of your original UCAS choices, UCAS Extra gives you another chance to gain a place.

What is UCAS Extra?

UCAS Extra is the official process for those who’ve not received any university offers, or for those who’ve declined the offers they have received. Consider it a second chance at getting a university offer.

When does UCAS Extra open?

UCAS Extra is free and runs from 23 February to 4 July 2024.

How do I apply using UCAS Extra?

If you are eligible for UCAS Extra a button will appear on your choices section of UCAS Track and this is how you apply – you can only apply for one course at a time.

Make sure you check the entry requirements to see if you are a suitable candidate for the course.

UCAS will send your application off with your original personal statement. You will have to speak to your new choice to see if they would rather have a new personal statement and if they will accept it directly.

These are the steps you’ll need to follow to make an application through Extra:

  1. Find a course you’re interested in.
  2. Contact the university directly to make sure that it will consider you and to ask any questions you might have.
  3. Once you have confirmation from your university of choice that they will consider you, apply for the new course in UCAS Hub.
  4. Wait for the university to consider your application. After 21 days, you can choose to continue waiting for a decision or replace your choice with another through Extra.

You can choose whether or not to accept a place on a course through UCAS Extra – once you have accepted you are committed to it and cannot apply elsewhere.

If you are unsuccessful or decline the offer, you can then choose another course to apply to if you’re within the deadline.

You can only make one choice at a time. If you don’t get an offer, or if you don’t want to take up that offer, you can apply to a further choice as long as you do so by July 4, 2024.
