It’s not too late to join The School of Journalism – UCAS Extra is a free service that gives you the option to apply to another university course if your others weren’t successful.

What is UCAS Extra?

UCAS Extra is another chance at applying to university. If you aren’t offered a place on one of your chosen courses, or you declined all of your offers, you can apply to one more university course after the UCAS deadline. It is essentially a second chance at getting into a university that you want.

When does UCAS Extra open?

UCAS Extra runs from February 26-July 4, 2025. After his window, you can apply to courses through UCAS Clearing

How do I apply using UCAS Extra?

Make sure that you are eligible for Extra – double check your UCAS Track applications to ensure you have gotten no offers.

These are the steps you’ll need to follow to make an application through Extra:

  1. Find a course you’re interested in.
  2. Contact the university directly to make sure that it will consider you and to ask any questions you might have.
  3. Once you have confirmation from your university of choice that they will consider you, apply for the new course in UCAS Hub.
  4. Wait for the university to consider your application. After 21 days, you can choose to continue waiting for a decision or replace your choice with another through Extra.

You can choose whether or not to accept a place on a course through UCAS Extra – once you have accepted you are committed to it and cannot apply elsewhere.

If you are unsuccessful or decline the offer, you can then choose another course to apply to if you’re within the deadline.

If you accept an offer through UCAS Extra, you will be expected to take up your place there and will be ineligible for Clearing, unless you fail to meet the grade requirements of the offer.
